My brother suffering from Schizophrenia was prescribed with Mellaril about three months ago. With this medication he is always calm and causes no problems like before. Another obvious benefit of Mellaril is that it has no such side effect like weight gain. It was absolutely horrible with other meds, even if they helped calm my brother he started gaining weight like hell. 80 pounds in less than two months! Unacceptable. I have been on Mellaril for a little bit more than 9 months now. I have been diagnosed with schizophrenia at an early age and since that time my condition had ups and downs. Sometimes it was so bad that my family had no other choice but to hospitalize me and I don't even remember that periods of time. When my condition worsens I start feeling panic I can't cope with, then I am getting aggressive. Next stage is voices in my head and visual hallucinations. When there is no medication that works well, the whole story ends up in hospital. I have tried many different meds in my life, some were effective, but the side effects they caused made me ask my doctor for switching me to another drug. Mellaril is the only medication that is mild enough not to blur my conscience and strong enough to make these symptoms go and not to come back.

I have been on many medications and Mellaril is the only one that doesn't make me feel that I am in danger. While with other meds I often felt depressed, panicking and claustrophobic. Actually I have never heard voices or delusions; my only problem is grandiose thinking. For me Mellaril turned out to be far more effective and tolerant to other antipsychotics. Schizophrenia is an awful diagnosis no matter how bad your stage is. It is a shock for the whole family and a real torture. That is why you should never try finding a medication that will help you solve the problem and won't cause unacceptable side effects at the same time. I wish you find such a perfect solution as Mellaril is for me!
