Desyrel
Desyrel (generic name: Trazodone; brand names include: Molipaxin / Deprax / Trittico / Thombran / Trialodine / Trazorel) belongs to the group of medicines known as antidepressants.
Desyrel has the following indications:
Clinical depression with or without anxiety
Chronic insomnia
Fibromyalgia, to control sleeping.
Control of nightmares or other disturbed sleep
A sleep aid (with a reduced risk of dependency)
Desyrel is also often used in conjunction with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs).
Recommendations
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. Take Desyrel exactly as directed.
Take Desyrel with or immediately after food.
Treatment should be started with low initial doses of 25 to 50 mg daily in divided doses or in an evening single dose. The dose may be increased slowly to a maximum of 300 mg daily in ambulatory patients and to 600 mg daily in hospitalized patients. Geriatric and emaciated patients should begin with 25 mg daily; this dose may be slowly increased to 300 mg. The duration of treatment should be at least one month. A 50 mg dose is recommended when using Desyrel as a sleep aid.
Precautions
Tell your doctor before taking Desyrel, if:
you are allergic to any medicines;
you have heart, liver or thyroid problems; epilepsy, diabetes or low blood pressure;
you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
