Atrovent
Atrovent (generic name: ipratropium; brand names include: Aeron/ Aerovent / Aproven / Apovent / Ipravent) is an anticholinergic bronchodilator.
Atrovent is indicated for maintenance treatment of bronchospasm associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, including chronic bronchitis and emphysema and when used in combination with other inhaled medicines, for asthma.
Atrovent improves air flow by relaxing the muscular tubes (air passages) that carry air to and from your lungs. It begins to act quickly after use but may take up to 2 hours to give maximum benefit.
Atrovent is available as 200 metered doses inhalers under the brand name Ipravent manufactured by Cipla.
Recommendations
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. Use Atrovent exactly as directed.
Shake the canister well before using. This will mix the medicine evenly so that a correct dose is delivered. Each puff must be inhaled through the mouth properly for Atrovent to work.
Ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information. You should do some test sprays before using a canister for the first time or if it hasn't been used for more than a day. Inhale this medication by mouth usually 4 times a day, or as directed by your doctor. Close your eyes and place your lips tightly around the mouthpiece to avoid spraying any of this medication into your eyes. If two inhalations/puffs are prescribed, wait at least one minute between them.
The recommended doses:
For Adults: 2 puffs four times daily (at regular intervals), up to a maximum of 12 puffs a day.
For children 6 to 12 years: 1 to 2 puffs three times daily (at regular intervals).
For children under 6 years: 1 puff three times daily (at regular intervals).
Never spray Atrovent in or around your eyes. Should this occur, immediately flush your eyes with cold tap water for several minutes.
If you are using other inhalers at the same time, wait several minutes between each medication. Rinse your mouth after using this inhaler to prevent dry mouth and throat irritation. If you are directed to take this medication regularly, it works best if used consistently at evenly spaced intervals. Remember to use it at the same times each day.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if you remember when it is almost time for your next dose, take only your usual dose at that time.
Atrovent should be kept in a cool, dry place at room temperature. Do not store in direct sunlight or heat. For example, do not leave it in the car on hot days.

Before using Atrovent, tell your doctor if:
